Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

241 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has received a communication from the Irish Medical Organisation that general practitioners may threaten to boycott the General Medical Service review in view of the dispute over payments for vaccinations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18219/00]

In April the Irish Medical Organisation indicated that, pending a satisfactory resolution of a number of immunisation issues, it would not become involved in discussions regarding a review of the role of general practice in primary care services. Since then, agreement has been reached on a number of the issues concerned. The parties have agreed to refer the other matters at issue to an independent third party for adjudication. The adjudication process will begin shortly and I am hopeful that this will lead to a speedy resolution of the outstanding issues.
