Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Post-Mortem Examinations.

Bernard Allen

Question:

243 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans he has to make regulations for an improved form of post-mortem reporting to include a high level of factual details rather than opinion. [18221/00]

The Deputy will be aware that I have recently established an inquiry into post-mortem examination, policy, practice and procedure in the State. The inquiry will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be chaired by an eminent senior counsel who will present me with a report of the inquiry's findings within six months. On receipt of the inquiry's report I will consult with relevant parties to ensure that best practice in the area of post-mortem reporting is observed.
