Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Mobile Phones.

John Gormley

Question:

277 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will have considerations made into issuing health warnings with mobile phones which would state the level of radiation from the phone and informing people that using an ear piece can reduce radiation significantly; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18435/00]

I am advised that the scientific evidence currently available does not indicate the need for any special precautions for use of mobile phones. Mobile phones in use here meet with the standards for exposure levels recommended by the EU.

If individuals are concerned that there may be adverse health effects from exposure to mobile phones they may choose to limit exposure by using hands-free devices.
