Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

298 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the current position regarding the much needed refurbishment and extension to Monaghan town sewage collection system; if this scheme is included in the national development plan; when the funding will be made available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18191/00]

This scheme is fifth on the list of projects submitted by Monaghan County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake fresh assessments of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists will be taken into account in the framing of water services investment for this and future years under the National Development Plan 2000-2006.

A preliminary report for an element of the scheme, the Monaghan town north-eastern area collection system, was approved by my Department under the serviced land initiative in July 1999. Contract documents in respect of this element are awaited from Monaghan Urban District Council.
