Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Fire Stations.

John McGuinness

Question:

301 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the fact that five out of seven fire stations in County Kilkenny require urgent reconstruction work or replacement in an effort to modernise the service to cope with the current level of activity and new safety developments in this area; the plans before his Department for approval; and if he will give an early indication to Kilkenny County Council as to when they can proceed. [18229/00]

An internal assessment undertaken early last year within my Department concluded that five fire stations in County Kilkenny had poor facilities. Applications have been received from Kilkenny County Council for approval in principle for extensions to two stations and in this connection I refer to the reply to Question No. 139 of 21 June 2000.
