Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

316 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to provide funding to extend the outer ring road in Waterford city either in 2000 or 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18442/00]

The maintenance and improvement of non-national roads, including their initial selection-prioritisation under the various grant categories, is a matter for Waterford Corporation, to be funded from its own resources, supplemented by grants from the local Government fund. The outer ring road in Waterford city was not among the projects for which funding was sought by Waterford Corporation under the specific improvement grants scheme for 2000.

In the recently launched Action on Housing policy statement, the Government announced an additional investment programme, at an overall cost of £200 million, for non-national road schemes supporting residential and other developments. My Department will now seek formal proposals in relation to this programme from a limited number of local authorities, including Waterford Corporation, in areas of particularly high developmental pressure.

Question:

317 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to provide funding to upgrade the road from Waterford city to Waterford Regional Airport; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18443/00]

Waterford Corporation's non-national road grant allocation of over £1.68 million in 2000 includes an allocation of £800,000 under the specific improvement grants scheme for phase 1 of the Airport Road in Waterford.
