Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Film Classification.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

366 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, in view of the fact that the film censor cannot classify films prior to September 1994, he will take action to ensure the censor can classify these films, in view of the expressed concerns of the film censor regarding his inability to classify pornographic films due to a legal loophole. [17906/00]

It is my intention to introduce secondary legislation, as soon as possible, to provide for the certification and classification of all video recordings, including recordings released prior to September 1994. Discussions in this regard are under way between my Department and the office of the film censor and I hope to be in a position to sign the necessary statutory instrument in the near future.
