Written Answers. - European Convention on Human Rights.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

369 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the European Convention on Human Rights will be incorporated into Irish Law; and the steps taken in this regard. [17931/00]

The Government decided on 18 April 2000 to incorporate the European Convention on Human Rights into our domestic law by means of legislation and subsequently in the joint statement to the Northern Ireland parties on 5 May 2000 indicated that this will take effect from October 2000. Proposals in this regard, including the possible form of the draft legislation, have been submitted to Government for consideration.
