Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - Teaching Qualifications.

Brendan Daly

Question:

483 Mr. Daly asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason the qualifications of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 16 who taught in a school of nursing attached to a hospital in Dublin are not considered adequate to qualify her for incremental credit in her present role as a teacher on a pre-nursing course with the VEC; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18252/00]

As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 373 from the Deputy on 30 May 2000, incremental credit may be awarded to second level teachers in respect of previous teaching service given in a qualified capacity.

The teacher in question has been employed in a qualified capacity since the 1997-98 school year. Prior to that, she was not qualified as she had not achieved the appropriate qualification in Irish which was a requirement at that time for the purposes of recognition. The service prior to 1997-98 was, therefore, unqualified service and is not reckonable for incremental credit purposes.
