Vol. 522 No. 2

Written Answers. - All-Irish Schools.

Richard Bruton

Question:

507 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the anxiety of parents seeking an all-Irish secondary school in an area (details supplied); if he will give an indication as to a suitable premises and a start-up date, before primary schools break-up; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18396/00]

The need for additional all-Irish second level educational provision in north-east Dublin, and the most appropriate response to such a need, have been under consideration in my Department for some time.

The growth in the number of gaelscoileanna in the area has resulted in a demand for continuity of provision at second level. In response to that demand, I have been actively considering a number of options for the establishment of an all-Irish post primary school in the area. I expect to be in a position to make an announcement shortly.

Every effort will be made to have temporary arrangements in place to enable the new school to commence operation in September 2001.
