Vol. 522 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Children's Strategy.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

50 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Health and Children when it is expected that the promised national children's strategy will be finalised and published; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15022/00]

The formal consultation with children, the wider public and the voluntary sector in relation to the national children's strategy concluded last Friday with a major forum to report back on the outcome. I met over 100 children in the morning and 220 young people, members of the general public and representatives of voluntary agencies who had made submissions to the strategy in the afternoon. The report of the consultation process will now be published.

I have considered the views expressed in the consultation and will now finalise my proposals for the national children's strategy. A report on the consultation process which took place with children, members of the general public and representatives of both the statutory and voluntary agencies will be published in July following continued consideration of the views expressed. I hope to publish the strategy in September.
