Vol. 522 No. 4

Written Answers. - National Car Test.

John Perry

Question:

154 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the minimum qualifications necessary for car inspectors at the national car testing centres; if he has satisfied himself that all personnel employed to carry out such tests are properly qualified; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18828/00]

Personnel engaged in testing for the national car test are required to hold a senior motor trade certificate – motor mechanic – or a national crafts certificate or equivalent. All relevant personnel employed by the national car testing service meet this requirement. In addition, such personnel are required to undergo initial and ongoing training in car testing.
