Vol. 522 No. 4

Written Answers. - Community Development.

Beverley Flynn

Question:

206 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if an application by a group (details supplied) in County Mayo is a valid application for funding under the grants to voluntary and community groups. [19114/00]

My Department operates a range of grant schemes which offer support for local self help groups, community development, welfare rights and information work. These grant schemes are aimed at developing people and their capacity to participate in society, rather than the provision of services.

I am aware that the group in question has applied for funding under the scheme of grants to voluntary groups. All applications under this scheme are currently being processed by my regional office in Galway. As you will appreciate it will take some time to process the applications and my Department will be in touch with the group as soon as a decision has been made regarding their application.
