Vol. 522 No. 4

Written Answers. - Garda Recruitment.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

230 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 1987 of 7 June 2000, the height requirements for gardaí have yet been considered by the Government; the outcome of such consideration; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19009/00]

Following consideration of the matter by the Government, I have established a Garda Síochána physical competence test review group and part of their remit will be to look at the validity of the present height requirements for both men and women and report back to me.

After I have received their report, the question of submitting proposals to Government change in this regard will be considered.
