Emmet Stagg

Question:

344 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Defence the number of tenders to purchase received in respect of Devoy Barracks, Naas, County Kildare; the current position in relation to the sale; if he will have considerations made into the suggestion that this land be used for social housing purposes; if he will discuss this matter with the Department of the Environment and Local Government which should be in a position to purchase the land for the local authorities in County Kildare; and if he will make a statement on the matter. One tender was received for the sale of Devoy Barracks, Naas, County Kildare which was totally unacceptable. Negotiations for the sale of the property by private treaty are ongoing and it is hoped to dispose of the property in the near future. The lands are zoned "new residential" under the Naas Urban District Council Development Plan 1999, and it would be a matter for the new owners to develop the land in consultation with the planning authority.
