Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

623 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of people awaiting cataract operations in the Mater Hospital, Dublin 7; the steps which he is taking to ensure that no patient will have to wait longer than 12 months; and when a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 is likely to be operated on in view of the fact she has been on the waiting list since June 1999. [20372/00]

The responsibility for the provision of services at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority in the first instance. My Department has asked the chief executive officer of the authority to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply directly to her as a matter of urgency.
