Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Physical Education Syllabus.

John Perry

Question:

1013 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science the plans he has to incorporate PE teaching as part of the secondary school curriculum; when it will be introduced; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19805/00]

Rules and Programme for Secondary Schools states that "Physical education should form part of the curriculum" in secondary schools. The Physical Education syllabus, which is included in this publication, is currently being revised. This revision is nearing completion and the NCCA will be distributing draft syllabus documents for consultation with all interested parties within the next two months. Following this consultation process the revised syllabus documents will be submitted by NCCA to me for approval before being introduced into the schools.
