I understand from Údarás na Gaeltachta that: the company in question provided employment for between 100 and 200 people for the period of ten and a half years of its existence. Employment peaked at 205 full-time jobs and the average employment over the life of the project was 166 jobs; the organisation paid a total of £1,017,186 in grant aid to the company – see following table for the details requested; the contingent liability had fully expired on £218,332 of the total grants paid before closure of the plant and could not be reclaimed from the company; and the organisation demanded repayment of those grants on which the contigent liability had not expired, i.e., £798,854 – £1,017,186 less £218,332 – and following negotiations it was agreed that the company would repay £600,000 of the grants to an tÚdarás and make a contribution of £50,000 towards the work of the task-force.
The Deputy will note that the cost to the State is very small. When one calculates the costs per job or per annum of the net grant paid after repayment of the £600,000.
