Question:

136 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the review of the Offences against the State Acts, 1939 to 1998, has been completed; the plans he has to publish the review and the recommendations contained in it; and when it is anticipated they will be published. [20899/00]

Question:

139 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans he has to amend the Offences against the State (Amendment) Act, 1998, in view of the fact that the perpetrators of the Omagh bombing have still to be brought to justice; his long-term plans for this legislation to remain in force; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19447/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 25, 136 and 139 together.

The review of the Offences against the State Acts is nearing finalisation and I hope to receive the committee's report before the end of the year. While it will be a matter for the Government to decide, I expect that the report will be published.

It would be premature at this stage to bring forward proposals for amendments to the Acts in question in advance of the finalisation of the review.
