Vol. 523 No. 4

Ceisteanna – Questions. - Census of Population.

Michael Ring

Question:

1 Mr. Ring asked the Taoiseach when the next census will be held in view of the increased population due to the number of returning emigrants and asylum seekers. [19304/00]

The next census of population will be held on Sunday, 29 April 2001. The census will cover everyone who is present in the country on census night. This accords with the definition used in previous censuses. Persons will be enumerated where they spend census night, for instance, in private households, hotels, guesthouses, hospitals, barracks etc.
