Vol. 523 No. 5

Written Answers. - Child Placements.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

222 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the case of a person (details supplied) in County Offaly who requires specialist therapeutic care in the United Kingdom; and if he will make immediate arrangements for this person's appropriate care in view of the fact that he has been in numerous State institutions in recent years without any improvement in his condition. [21755/00]

This case was reviewed by the High Court earlier this week and the court decided to continue the child's current placement in a unit within the State on the basis of reports submitted. I understand that the health board responsible for this child's care is continuing to explore the possibility of a placement outside the State.
