Vol. 524 No. 1

Written Answers. - Court Procedures.

John Gormley

Question:

151 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has received correspondence from a person (details supplied) in County Mayo; and if he can respond to the concerns raised in her letter. [21843/00]

My attention has been drawn to the correspondence in question.

I understand that the substantive issue raised in the correspondence relates to court proceedings. The position is that the courts are, subject only to the Constitution and the law, independent in the exercise of their judicial functions and it is not open to me to comment on or intervene in any way in the conduct or decision in any individual court case.
