31 Mr. Perry asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment when she will make a decision on the implementation of the recommendations of the Competition and Mergers Review Group report; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21630/00]
The final report of the Competition and Mergers Review Group which was published by me in May last is a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the operation and application of all aspects of competition and mergers legislation. It contains some 40 recommendations on a variety of aspects of competition and mergers legislation including enforcement of competition law; the administration of mergers law; the operation and procedures of the Competition Authority; the newspaper industry; the Restrictive Practices (Groceries) Order 1987; and legislative consolidation.
I am considering all the recommendations in the report and I do not propose to react in any detail until I have had the opportunity to fully and carefully consider all of them.
