Vol. 524 No. 1

Written Answers. - Overseas Workers.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

93 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of workers from overseas, other than returning emigrants, who have been attracted to employment here in each of the past three years; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21858/00]

My Department only has information relating to those overseas workers from outside the European Economic Area, EEA, who require a work permit.

The numbers of new permits, that is, excluding renewals, issued for the years in question are as follows:

19994,602

19983,830

19972,927

Statistics are not kept in respect of the free movement of workers within the EEA and such workers do not have to register with us.
