Vol. 524 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

317 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans he has to increase the number of places for kidney dialysis in Cavan General Hospital and in the North Eastern Health Board; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22310/00]

The provision of services at Cavan General Hospital is the statutory responsibility of the North Eastern Health Board in the first instance.

I understand from the North Eastern Health Board that it and the Cavan hospital management have extended the kidney dialysis service in recent weeks by taking on three extra patients. A further four patients are due to be transferred for dialysis to Cavan within the next three weeks. The board hopes to be in a position to have provision for a further 18 patients in 2001 which will significantly clear the waiting list for dialysis services in Cavan-Monaghan and the surrounding area.
