Vol. 524 No. 2

Written Answers. - Official Inquiry.

Enda Kenny

Question:

367 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans she has to conduct an official inquiry into the administration of the Genealogical Office and the Office of the Chief Herald; if her attention has been drawn to the claims that bogus chiefs were recognised by the Genealogical Office; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [21923/00]

My Department is at present considering the terms of reference and the possible membership of a committee to review procedures introduced in the 1940s, whereby courtesy recognition of chiefs of the name is granted by the Genealogical office and I hope to be in a position to make a formal announcement in the matter in the near future.
