Vol. 524 No. 2

Written Answers. - Coroner Service.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

379 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will publish the report on the Coroners Act, 1962; when he will introduce a new coroners Bill; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22090/00]

The Deputy will be aware that in December 1998, the Government approved my proposals to establish a working group to undertake a comprehensive review of the coroner service, including the 1962 Coroners Act. I understand that the group has finalised its deliberations and I expect to have its final report shortly.

I can assure the Deputy that the report of the group will, on its receipt, be examined by Government as quickly as possible. When I have particular legislative proposals, I will bring them to the Government for approval and have them published in the normal way.
