Vol. 524 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Michael Ring

Question:

426 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science the current position with regard to a school (details supplied) in County Mayo; if an extension or a new school building will be provided to alleviate the overcrowding; the progress that has been made in this regard; if land has been purchased; when this school first applied for the extra accommodation; the reason this school building has not started; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22135/00]

(Dr. Woods): My Department is currently in the process of acquiring a site extension for the provision of improved accommodation at the school in question. The Deputy will appreciate that my Department has a large number of school building projects on hand at present. Within this constraint, I can assure the Deputy that the project is being dealt with as quickly as possible.
The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.
