Vol. 524 No. 2

Written Answers. - Vocational Education Committees.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

428 Ms Coughlan asked the Minister for Education and Science if sanction will be given to a VEC (details supplied) in County Donegal to provide for two plc courses in information processing and child care. [22163/00]

Approval to offer post leaving certificate – PLC – courses in information processing and child care was conveyed to County Donegal Vocational Education Committee on 29 June 2000. Since then the Vocational Education Committee – VEC – has advised that it is not proceeding with the childcare course. However, in a letter dated 10 October 2000, approval is sought by the VEC for a PLC programme in outdoor recreation which will include modules in outdoor leadership and safety, adventure activities, hill walking, kayak skills, information and communication technology and work experience.

This new application is being examined at present and a decision on the matter will be notified to County Donegal VEC as soon as possible.
