Vol. 524 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

John Perry

Question:

146 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will instruct his Department to release the outstanding payments to the builder of the new school in Bunninadden, County Sligo, to enable it to open; the reason payment has not been issued; the negotiations he has had to ensure that the school furniture is put in place instantly; if he will give a commitment that the school will be open by mid-November 2000 in view of the fact that the schools to be amalgamated will be boycotted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22735/00]

I have been informed that my Department's records indicate that there are no outstanding payments for work completed on the new school at Bunninadden, County Sligo.

Construction is at an advanced stage and every effort will be made to ensure that the school is completed as quickly as possible.

My Department is dealing with the question of providing furniture for the school and the management authorities will keep be informed of progress in this regard.
