Vol. 524 No. 4

Written Answers. - Work Permits.

Seán Power

Question:

52 Mr. Power asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if her attention has been drawn to the fact that some workers who were granted work permits are paid by the company which makes the work permit application on their behalf and not by their employer; her views on whether this practice is acceptable; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22812/00]

To date no such case(s) have been drawn to my attention.

In general work permits are issued by my Department to the employer of the non-national concerned.

If the Deputy has concerns in relation to the arrangements in a particular case perhaps he would forward the specific details to me and I will arrange to have the matter investigated.
