Vol. 524 No. 5
232 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the cost of raising the level of installation aid for young farmers to £12,000. [23090/00]
Under the National Development Plan 2000-6, funding amounting to £29.8 million has been allotted to a proposed new enhanced scheme of installation aid. A premiums of £7,500 will be payable to each eligible applicant. This will allow for approximately 3,970 young trained farmers to avail of the scheme.
For an equivalent number to qualify for a higher rate of premium of £12,000, the estimated cost would be some £48 million. A range of other supports are also available for qualified young farmers, such as 100% stamp duty relief, stock relief and the additional aid under the proposed new dairy hygiene and farm waste management schemes.
