Question:

331 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children the total spent on the nursing home subvention; the total number of recipients; the total spent on the long-term illness book; and the total number of people who currently hold this entitlement. [23181/00]

The latest figures available to my Department indicate that there are 6,095 people in receipt of subvention. The budget for the scheme this year is £38.4 million.

In 1999, the funding spent on the long-term illness scheme was £27.2 million and the expenditure to the end of July 2000 was £17.9 million. The number of eligible persons under the long-term illness scheme is 80,136.
