I am satisfied that all Air Corps aircraft, fixed wing and rotary, flying on operational duties are maintained to a high state of air worthiness which enables them to carry out all the tasks assigned to them.
Air Corps aircraft are subject to a very strict maintenance regime. Maintenance is carried out, as required, in line with the standard manufacturer's maintenance manual of each aircraft. In addition, all aircraft meet the certification standards laid down by the relevant aviation authorities.
The Deputy is aware that the Government recognise that there are urgent equipment requirements in the Air Corps. In recognition of these urgent requirements, I was pleased to announce on 1 March 2000 the allocation of up to £55 million over the next three years for that purpose. These funds will initiate vital investment in new aircraft for the Air Corps.
