Vol. 524 No. 6

Written Answers. - Vehicle Emissions.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

242 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if any discussions have taken place between CIÉ and his Department to ensure that a significant proportion of new vehicles purchased by Dublin Bus give off emissions that comply with the EU directive standards; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23545/00]

It is a mandatory condition for the first registration by the Revenue Commissioners of all new petrol, diesel and duel-fuel powered passengers cars, goods vehicles and buses that they comply with the emission standards laid down in the relevant EU directives on this subject. New vehicles being put into service by Dublin Bus are subject to this requirement.

In-service emission limits, which are specified in Directive 96/96 on roadworthiness testing of vehicles, are enforced as part of the annual roadworthiness tests on all Dublin Bus vehicles.
