Vol. 524 No. 6

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

283 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education and Science the plans he has to increase the number of educational psychologists in the North Eastern Health Board area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23492/00]

The national educational psychological service – NEPS – currently provides a service to all second level schools in the country and to approximately a quarter of all national schools, including schools in the North Eastern Health Board area. The NEPS is currently embarking on a developmental phase, at the end of which all schools will have access to the service offered by the agency. The NEPS is being developed on a regional basis, corresponding to the health board regions, and services in each region, including that covered by the North Eastern Health Board, are being expended as additional staff are recruited to NEPS.
