292 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the urgent need for the appointment of a special needs care assistant for a person (details supplied) at Dreeney national school, in County Cork; and if he will immediately approve the appointment. [23645/00]

I am aware of the case referred to by the Deputy.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department has sanctioned a full time special needs assistant to the school in question to assist in the educational needs of the pupil referred to by the Deputy.

The school authorities will be informed in the very near future.
