Vol. 524 No. 6

Written Answers. - Apple Industry.

Michael Moynihan

Question:

106 Mr. M. Moynihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development his views on the recent increase in the development of commercial apple growing for the drinks industry and the export potential of the product; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23393/00]

I welcome the development of commercial apple growing for the drinks industry as it not only assists a local industry but also provides a secure outlet for producers. Production is increasing annually and the sector is development oriented. Export statistics indicate that there has been a major growth in exports in recent years and I see no reason that should not continue.
