Vol. 524 No. 6

Business of Dáil.

On a point of order, a Cheann Comhairle, I submitted to you a request for a meeting of the Committee on Procedure and Privileges, given the injustice that was done to my colleague, Deputy Gormley, this morning.

Have you considered that matter yet?

There can be no meeting of the Committee on Procedure and Privileges on that subject.

I fail to understand your ruling.

The Deputy cannot dispute the decision of the Chair. He must resume his seat now. The Chair will not tolerate any more disorder.

A Cheann Comhairle—

The Deputy has his choice.

—you suspended half of the parliamentary party of the Green Party on the basis of a factual record that there are two versions of events.

Will the Deputy resume his seat please?

I am simply asking you, a Cheann Comhairle, for the opportunity to resolve this matter in an orderly fashion.

Will the Deputy resume his seat?

May I assist you, a Cheann Comhairle? Can I suggest that perhaps, at your convenience, a meeting of the Committee on Procedure and Privileges could discuss this and other matters?

The Chair has considered the request made and the Committee on Procedure and Privileges is not an appellate body to the rulings of the Chair.

I suggest then that a meeting of the Committee on Procedure and Privileges might be convened to discuss the range of matters, not necessarily that one.

That is it. If the Deputy makes that request, it will be considered. Ceist a h-aon.

Thank you.

The request has been made, a Cheann Comhairle.

Will the Deputy resume his seat?

Is it that if Deputy Quinn makes a request it will be considered and if I make a request, it will not be considered?

It is on a different basis. It will be considered. Your request was considered and refused.

Therefore is it that my request is not to be included in the range of matters to be discussed?

Your request was considered and refused. Now resume your seat, Deputy.

A Cheann Comhairle, I strongly protest against this.

I will ask the Deputy now to leave the House.

I do not want to be disorderly. I am trying to help us move on.

Will the Deputy leave the House? I have given the Deputy a great deal of latitude and he must leave the House or I will name him.

This is not the way to go, a Cheann Comhairle.

I call on the Deputy to leave the House.

A Cheann Comhairle—

The Deputy must leave the House.

—I will sit down because I want to have some representation for my party here.

The Deputy must leave the House.

Deputy Sargent withdrew from the Chamber.
