Vol. 524 No. 6

Written Answers. - Food Quality Schemes.

Brendan Smith

Question:

117 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when the Food Quality Review Group will report; the way in which his Department intends to ensure greater coherence under food quality schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23381/00]

A group comprising representatives of relevant interest groups was established in February last, to review schemes currently in operation in light of the future requirements of consumers and the food industry to examine the accreditation procedures applying to each scheme, and to make appropriate recommendations.

The group is continuing its deliberations and I expect to have its report by the end of this year. On receipt of the report and having examined the group's recommendations I will decide what action is appropriate.
