Vol. 525 No. 1

Written Answers. - Credit Union Movement.

Michael Bell

Question:

32 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Finance the matters discussed at his recent meeting with the Irish League of credit unions; when he will bring forward proposals to deal with the taxation of savings of credit union members; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23459/00]

I met with the Irish League of Credit Unions on 3 and 6 October 2000 to discuss the taxation arrangements for credit unions. At the meeting on 6 October, it was agreed that these discussions could form the basis of an agreement for new taxation arrangements for the credit union movement. The Irish League of Credit Unions is consulting its members at present on this issue and I am not therefore in a position to comment further on the ultimate outcome of the discussions to date.
