366 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the assistance available from his Department or from any other State or semi-State agency to help farmers construct under-road passages to enable them to move livestock across roads safely; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (Mr. Walsh):

My Department has no responsibility in regard to construction of roads.

I am advised that such construction is generally within the ambit of local authorities or the National Roads Authority. Issues connected with access are taken into account in the design and approval of public roads.
