Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Boundaries.

Michael Bell

Question:

658 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason for the delay in the extension of the borough boundary of Drogheda, County Louth; his views on whether there is a requirement for the substantial extension of the boundary because of the substantial influx of residents from outside County Louth and the shortage of building land; the reason this has not been sanctioned by him; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23965/00]

Under the provisions of Part V of the Local Government Act, 1991, and the associated regulations, it is open at any time to an individual local authority to adopt a proposal to alter its boundary for administrative purposes. Before submitting a formal application to the Minister under Part V, the authority must first invite submissions both from the general public and the other authorities concerned. As no application to alter the administrative boundary of Drogheda Borough Corporation has been submitted to my Department, I have no role in the matter.

Question No. 659 taken with Question No. 653.
