Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

John Bruton

Question:

842 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will make a statement regarding the additional accommodation for St. Peter's College, Dunboyne, County Meath; the timing of the building work; and when the additional building work will commence in view of the fact it is imperative that additional accommodation be provided for the increased numbers of students who are attending the school. [23934/00]

An assessment of the future accommodation needs of St. Peter's community college is currently being carried out by the planning and building unit of my Department in the light of an application by County Meath vocational education committee for an extension to the college. This process entails consideration of all relevant factors, including enrolment and demographic trends, housing developments and the capacity of existing schools in the general area to meet the demand for places. When the assessment has been finalised, a decision will be made on the appropriate level of accommodation to meet future demands.

I have asked my officials to finalise the process as quickly as possible.
