Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Ulick Burke

Question:

149 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Health and Children if, in the view of the announcement made on the weekend of 21-22 October 2000, he will reconsider his Department's decision in relation to the Grove Hospital, Tuam, County Galway, and make finances available to the Western Health Board to continue in service this important facility in the north east Galway, south Mayo and Tuam area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24084/00]

The provision of health services in the Western Health Board area is the responsibility of the Western Health Board in the first instance. As the Deputy will be aware, the Bon Secours Hospital, Tuam, is a private hospital and, accordingly, I have no role in the provision of services at that hospital.

I understand that the Western Health Board held a special meeting on Friday, 3 November at which there was a very comprehensive discussion about future services in the Tuam area and I am awaiting further proposals from the board in the matter.
