Vol. 525 No. 3

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

222 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will ensure that children with cystic fibrosis are not placed for treatment in the same ward as patients with viral infections due to the closure of the cystic fibrosis ward in Tallaght Hospital, Dublin 24; and if he will reassure parents of children with cystic fibrosis who are deeply concerned with cutbacks at Tallaght Hospital, Dublin 24. [25209/00]

The Deputy will be aware that the Eastern Regional Health Authority now has responsibility for the provision of acute hospital services in the eastern region. I have been informed by the authority that the Adelaide and Meath Hospital, incorporating the National Children's Hospital, does not place children with cystic fibrosis for treatment in the same wards as patients with viral infections.

I am further advised that there are three beds at the hospital dedicated to patients who require treatment for cystic fibrosis and that the hospital has no plans to alter this arrangement.
