Vol. 525 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Funding.

Alan Shatter

Question:

101 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will make available to South Dublin County Council the funds it requires to complete the green route running from Boden Park to Marley estate; whether he has received a request for funding from the council; and his views on whether the inability of the council to complete the route is a regular cause of traffic gridlock. [19445/00]

In the recently launched Action on Housing policy statement, the Government announced an additional investment programme, at an overall cost of £200 million, for non-national road schemes supporting residential and other developments. The road from Boden Park to Marley Estate running along the green route, is among the proposals which have been submitted by South Dublin County Council in response to a request from my Department to selected local authorities for suitable projects under this new programme.

Proposals received from local authorities under this new investment programme are under consideration in my Department and an announcement concerning the projects which will be included in the programme will be made as soon as possible.
