Question:

74 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she will indicate, in respect of 1999, the total sales in Irish punts to business consumers, domestic consumers and to other consumers with regard to electricity, natural gas, bottled gas, coal, central heating oils, petrol, white diesel, red diesel and other fuels. [25381/00]

The total sales to consumers in 1999 with regard to electricity and natural gas are estimated at IR£1,492 million, exclud ing VAT. This figure includes an amount in respect of natural gas for electricity generation. I am not in a position to provide the specific sales information requested by the Deputy in relation to oil, coal and other products.

However, the volume sales of the different products in thousand tonnes of oil equivalent (ktoe) are as follows:

The Green Paper on Sustainable Energy has identified the importance of a high quality energy statistical database and in that context, the Irish Energy Centre is in the process of establishing a statistical policy support unit.
