Vol. 525 No. 5

Written Answers. - Sugar Beet Restructuring Scheme.

David Stanton

Question:

225 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development further to Parliamentary Question No. 140 of 25 October 2000 the compensation available to retiring growers who surrender their contracts; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25867/00]

Under a contract restructuring scheme agreed recently between Irish Sugar plc. and the IFA provision was made for retiring farmers to surrender their sugar beet contracts. The operation of the scheme, including the arrangements under which retiring growers surrender contracts, is a matter entirely for the two bodies concerned. I have no function in this matter.
