Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

248 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the position in regard to the various reports complied in relation to the flooding at Hazelhatch, Celbridge, County Kildare; the cost of all such reports to date; the extent to which preparations have been concluded for the implementation for the necessary remedial work to ensure the cessation of the flooding forthwith; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25861/00]

The Office of Public Works using its powers under the Arterial Drainage Acts, 1945 and 1995 has prepared a drainage scheme to alleviate flooding in the Hazelhatch areas of Counties Kildare and south Dublin. It is envisaged the Shinkeen River (Hazelhatch) drainage scheme, prepared by the Office of Public Works, will go on public exhibition in the area on the week ending 24 November, 2000 for a period of three weeks. Details of the exhibition venues and times will be published in the daily and weekly local newspapers circulating in the area. The general public, local authorities and affected property owners will be afforded an opportunity to comment on the scheme proposals before they can be advanced to works stage.

The design proposals for alleviating the flooding in this area have been drawn up following engineering and ecological surveys and reports of the affected area, which have to date cost some £18,000.
